CMA (USA) Admission & Pathways
CMA Entry Routes
The CMA (USA) program is offered by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and is available to individuals with a bachelor’s degree (in any discipline). Students and professionals can start as IMA members.
IMA Membership Details
Enrollment in CMA requires becoming a member of IMA. This includes an annual membership fee and adherence to their professional ethics.
Authorized Course Providers
You can prepare for CMA through registered course providers that offer online and in-person coaching.
Exemptions
Unlike other certifications, CMA does not offer exemption-based entries. All candidates must pass both exam parts.

Two-Part Exam Structure
CMA is divided into two parts:
Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics
Strategic Financial Management
MCQ and Essay Format
Each part consists of 100 MCQs and 2 essay questions. You must clear at least 50% of MCQs to unlock the essay section.
Testing Windows
Exams are available in Jan-Feb, May-Jun, and Sep-Oct annually.
Computer-Based Exam
All exams are taken on computers at Prometric testing centers globally.

Register through the IMA website, submit academic documents, and schedule exams through Prometric.
Academic & Practical Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree (verified by IMA-recognized evaluation agencies for non-US degrees).
Work Experience
Two years of relevant experience in management accounting or financial management is required (before or within 7 years of passing exams).
Ethics Statement
Candidates must adhere to the IMA’s Statement of Ethical Professional Practice.
Continuing Education (CPE)
After certification, professionals must complete 30 hours of CPE annually, including 2 hours in ethics.
